Vion Wins ESG Transparency Award 2025

Vion has won the international ESG Transparency Award 2025, achieving both Excellence status and the title of Leading Company from EUPD Research. Vion is the first European meat company to receive this recognition for transparent and reliable ESG reporting – marking a new milestone for sustainability and open communication within the food sector.

The international ESG Transparency Award assesses sustainability reporting across five areas: governance, environment, social responsibility, performance and quality of communication. Vion scored particularly highly on completeness, structure and the integration of ESG data. This demonstrates that the company operates with science-based targets, applies responsible sourcing practices and delivers measurable progress across the entire European value chain.

Strong transparency and integrated reporting
Vion’s sustainability reporting is already aligned with the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and is fully integrated into the 2024 Annual Report. In doing so, Vion builds on a long-standing reporting tradition: it was the first meat company to publish a CSR report back in 2017.

This level of transparency is made possible by clear accountability, verified data and accessible key performance indicators that demonstrate progress in areas including:

  • The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through science-based targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

  • Innovations in animal welfare, including programmes such as Good Farming Star and the use of AI to promote healthy curly tails.

  • Circular processes and responsible sourcing across all value chains.

Dr Veronika Weber, CSO of Vion Food Group, commented on the award:
“Transparency is the foundation of trust. By integrating our sustainability reporting into the Annual Report, our ESG performance becomes an integral part of our business results. Being the first European meat company to receive this recognition confirms our role as a benchmark for credible ESG reporting.”

The award ceremony took place on 26 November 2025 during the ESG Summit in Bonn, Germany, as part of the European Sustainability Week.

With this recognition, Vion joins a select group of European frontrunners whose sustainability reporting meets the highest standards of transparency, relevance and comparability.
